Today I would normally have P.E. twice, Bio twice, German, Break, and Math twice. But today, Kyra had piano lessons so I left after break, that means I really had the first five lessons and break. The teacher for P.E. (the teacher for Math and P.E. are the same) so I had Math instead of P.E. along with the "short" day. In Bio, we watched a movie about wings and people that are trying to make robot birds. It was interesting even though I could not understand it. That will just motivate me to learn German even more.
I think the most different thing about Germany and America is the language. Even though there are a lot of words that are similar, there are also a lot of differences too. For example: in English, everything is an "it" unless it is alive, then it is a he or a she. But in German, everything, even if it is an object, is male, female or neutral! If the object is male, they say "der", and if it is female, they say "die", and then the object, and for neutral, they say "das". Der, die and das all mean "the", and there is not a rule for the sex of something, when you learn a noun in German, you have to learn the sex too! I think it is fascinating how even language is different from country to country.
I am surprised at how fun school can be. Even though I can understand very little of what is said. I am finding a few ways to participate in class and the classes I cannot participate in, I just read my German Made Simple book when the teacher is not talking. When I talk to my friends, I often add a new word I have learned in my sentences without noticing. But I know I still have a lot to learn.
